About Big Bear Theatre Company
BIG BEAR THEATRE COMPANY (formerly Little Bear Theatre) is a London based theatre production company founded by Ursula Early in 2010. Since then the company has mounted a hugely successful and diverse programme of shows, events and workshops in London and around the UK.
The company specialises in producing vibrant, fresh adaptations of the classics as well as discovering and developing contemporary work influenced by the classics.
Big bear has two major projects in early development (for spring/summer 2015): an ambitious site-specific adaption of one of Shakespeare's most famous plays and a devised production based on one of Europe's most loved childrens characters....more news coming soon.
In 2014 we had the smash hit Desdemona; a play about a handkerchief at Park Theatre (May-June). A wild and naughty re-telling of Shakespeare's 'Othello' from the perspective of Othello's women characters written by American Playwright Paula Vogel
During 2013 Big Bear re-energised and reinvigorated the classic genre of farce with a regular new play writing night Laugh Your Farce Off at Pleasance Theatre (Islington & Edinburgh)
Big Bear's first production in 2011 was the Georgian farce A Bold Stroke For A Husband (funded by Arts Council) was in association with Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and was part of their ongoing project to restore the repertoire of Georgian and Regency plays.
Big Bear's second major production in 2012 Double Indignity (Bridewell Theatre, written by Daniel O'Brien) was a Big Bear commission and an adaptation of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale written in verse.
